Four Men Arrested
Menaced by a mob of about 50
men outside the Southern Cross Hotel, at the corner of Ingles and Station streets, Port Melbourne, on Saturday afternoon, two con- stables were compelled to call a police wneless patrol.
Constables Click and Armstrong were questioning a man after a raid on a
"two-up" school when the mob became threatening. When the police seized a man who had used indecent language the men rushed forward and the constables weie struck several times.
Called by one of the constables from the hotel a police wireless patrol quickly
dispersed the mob. Three men were| arrested and later a fourth man was|
detained.
At the Port Melbourne watchhouse four men were charged with assaulting the police, and one of them was charged with having used indecent language and with having resisted arrest.
