Sir Hugh
Ennor
dies
Sir Hugh Ennor, former head of
the Department of Science and one
of Australia's most prominent
biochemists, died on Friday in Can
berra, aged 65.
Sir Hugh, who retired from the
Department last Monday, will be
cremated this afternoon.
He was appointed Secretary of
the Department of Education and
Science in 1967. He was also a
Deputy Vice-chancellor of the Aus
tralian National University from
1964 to 1967, and a professor of
biochemistry at the university from
1948 to 1967.
A foundation member of the Na
tional Heart Foundation, he was the
dean of the John Curtin School of
Medical Research for 14 years up
to 1976.
He was suffering from stomach
ulcers and was under treatment by
Sydney doctors.
