"HEAT" IN ANTARCTIC

Warmth Appreciated by Expedition
NEW YORK, June 5.
The following wireless message has been i leceived fiom the base camp of the Byrd ¡expedition in the Antaictic -
"Little America -This polar communitv has entered upon the 14th day of what, for want of a bettci equivalent might be called the hottest winter heat wave in the memorj of the oldest inhabitants At 8 a in the temperature soared to 25deg above zero notwithstanding: a blizzaid and thudding soft moist snow which was almost like lain But the warm spell Is a boon to the expedition The ti actor department is busy overhaul- ing three machines The handling of metal at low temperatures is cruel work and the men are glad that the wcathei has become more moderate "
