NEW YORK, Sunday (AAP-Reuter ). - Ken Rosewall defeated Rod Laver 6-3, 6-3 last night and won the $A22,300 professional tennis tournament at Madison Square Garden in an all-Australian final.

Laver started out quickly in the firtt set, while Rose

wall had to fight to hold

his service.

But with dramatic sud denness in the "seventh game Rosewall's brilliant ground

strokes appeared and Laver'S booming serve soured as Rosewall broke service to take a 4-3 lead.

Brilliantly returning the best that Laver had to offer, Rosewall broke again in the ninth game to win 6-3, taking the set in only 26


Laver again started breaking Rosewall's service in the first game after a series of rallies that were tennis at its best.

His fast service once again effective, Laver held Rosewall at bay with three aces in the second game.

But Rosewall, with his powerful ground game, tied the set at 3-3 by breaking Laver with a perfect back hand passing shot.

Rosewall held his serve to love in the seventh game and came through in the next to break Laver again after Laver fought to deuce.

In the women's singles, Eva Lundqyistj {Of Sweden, won by default over Robyn Ebbern, Of Australia, when Miss Ebbern reported she was too ill to play.

Gail Sheriff, of Australia, defeated Elena Subirats, of Mexico, 6-2, 6-4, in . the semi-finals.

(AAP). - Rumanian player Tiriac defeated Australian Bob Garmichael 6-1, 8-6 in the men's singles final of the Brussels European Club tennis tournament yester day.

In the semi-finals Car michael had defeated Tom Okker, Holland, 11-9, 6-2,

and Tiriac defeaJted Lund-j qvist, Sweden, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

In the men's doubles final Okker and Carmichael were beaten 7-5, 6-3 by Contet and Beust of France.
