The Canadian Scottish Regiment and the 10th Infantry covered themselves with glory during the battle near Ypres a few weeks ago when, by the use of poisonous gas, the Germans temporarily over-powered a section of the French troops. When the French were poisoned the wood on the Canadian left had to be evacuated, and lour Canadian 4.7 in guns were abandoned. The same night the 10th Battalion of Canadian Iufantry and the 16th Battalion of the Canadian Scottish Regiment were went to recover the guns. They rushed the wool at midnight in eight lines, and they were met by a terrible fire or shrapuel shells, machine guns, and rifles coming from a German trench in the wood.
