TWENTY LIVES LOST Central News, photos. The 1147 submarine was sunk on July 9 in a collision with submarine L12 in St. George's Channel, off the coast of Pembrokeshire. All the officers and crew except two lost their lives. The first picture shows the H47, and the second photograph depicts the damaged bow of L12.
