    SOME SHIPS OF THE EARLY DAYS. The band of pioneers who came to South Australia in the early days of the new colony is fast disappearing, and equally so the noble sailing ships which in their day were the pride and boast of their daring masters. Above are given some of the vessels which were identified with the early history of the State. 1. A fleet of emigrant ships in Australian waters. 2. The Torrens at Port Adelaide. She was a favorite passenger ship. 3. The Hesperas, one of the first iron clippers of the Orient line. She is believed to be still afloat. 4. The City of Adelaide, built in 1864 She was a fast passenger ship and had a run of 65 days from Adelaide to London to her credit. 5. The South Australian, which came out in 1868.
