VICTORIA'S NEW CHIEF JUSTICE, Sir Edmund Herring, took his seat on the bench fo rthe first time yesterday. After being accorded a formal welcome in the Third Civil Court by members of the legal profession, Sir Edmund Herring held an informal reception in his rooms, where this picture was taken. Maj-Gen C. E. M. Lloyd (right), Adjutant-General, is seen congratulating the Chief Justice in the presence of Lady Herring and 2 of their daughters, Molly (left) and Judy. The youngest member of the family, Margaret, was not present. Also in picture are Mr Frank Druce (left) and Mr A. B. Nicholls, who was clerk to Sir Edmund Herring before he went on active service.
