Article : 20 wordsThe "Joss-house" at South Melbourne, which some of the older Chinese reisdents of Melbourne still visit regularly. It contains many fine specimens of embroidery, carving, and lacquer-work. I.—A carved candlestick on the end of the centre altar. In front of it is a bamboo vase containing prayer-sticks—slips of bamboo with a pryaer inscribed on them—which are purchase and place on the altar by worshippers. Next to it is a bowl containing joss-sticks, and behind this ia tall metal urn, which also serves as an incense-burner. 2.—Image of the horse of General Quong Kung, the deity to whom the temple is dedicated, which is also an object of veneration. Beneath the reaised forefoot is a bowl containing an offering. In the racks behind are processional banners. 3.—A drum and abronze bell, which with plenty of fire-crackers, provide and accompaniment to the ceremonies. On the left is an exact full-size model of General Quong Kung's sword. 4.—This pictue of General Quong Kung, which occupies the centre of the main altar, is the chief object of worship. ...
