M. Scott), with the approval of Professor R. W. Chapman, Mr. E. H. [?] (Chief Engineer for Railways), and Mr. H. G. Jenkinson, whom the council appointed consulting engineers to act with Mr. Scott in the preparation of the design. At a special meeting of the council on Friday afternoon the design was approved, and specifications are being prepared. Tenders for the construction of the bridge will shortly be called. It will be a three-hinged reinforced concrete arch bridge, the length over all being 213 ft. 6 in. The centre span over the river will be 115 ft. 6 in., with a clearance of 18 ft. 8, in above the new summer water level. At either end of this span there will be a 10ft. 6 in, pilaster, connecting a farther span of 31 ft. 6 in., with the end 7.ft. pilaster. The total width of the bridge is to be 132 ft., providing for 92 ft. of roadway and a 20.ft. footpath on either side. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
