  29. NEUVE CHAPELLE.

    One of the outstanding incidents of the great war was the recapture by the British troops of the French town of Neuve Chapelle, which was very strongly held by the Germans. The battle took place early in March, and was of a most desperate nature. The victory was made possible only by the massing of 350 guns, which spoke at once, on a front of barely 3.000 yards. Our picture show the ruins of the village of Neuve Chapelle after the terrible bombardment, and gives a wonderful idea of the havoc wrought by modern artillery. At the present moment another desperate struggle is going on to the eastward of the town. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
