    Although o troublesome household pest, it is to the pastoralist that the blowfly is the greatest scourge, and the resultant annual loss to the wool industry has been estimated at several millions of pounds. The species illustrated, although not as troublesome as some of the green bottles or blue bottles, is capable of initiating fly strike on sheep and works during cooler weather than the other varieties. It is the largest local blowfly and the species most prevalent during the winter.
