    The show as a whole was a great success There were more entries than ever before. The heaviest beast, a three-year-old Highland steer, weighed 18cwt. lqr. 241b., or nearly 1 ton. The heaviest sheep, a Lincoln wether, weighed about 3cwt. lqr. The heaviest pig, aged ll months, weighed 5cwt. 1qr. 19lb., or more than a quarter of a ton. Of animals almost equally enormous, and equally incapable of walking a mile in an hour, there were 1,050—281 head of cattle, some 470 sheep, and 300 pigs. Prize money to the amount of £4,113 was offered for competition. In addition to these animals, known officially as live stock, there was also a particularly interesting little group of creatures, comprising 33 cattle, 65 sheep, and 34 pigs, who were, ...
