  8. THE BROKEN HILL MUNICIPAL ABATTOIRS.

As there are thousands of residents in Broken Hill who have never had occasion to go near enough to the Abattoirs to see this much-advertised local institution, the above photographs will to some extent exhibit the buildings as they stand. Truth to tell, they do not look worth half the money they cost. As will be seen, they are little more than galvanised iron sheds, standing on a very rough stone foundation. 13. THE SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC CLUB'S NEW BUILDING.

This extensive structure, which replaces the club buildings that were destroyed by fire, is not built of; unlined whitewashed galvanised iron, like the abattoirs, but of solid concrcete walls, finished outside with cement lined out like the courses of ashlar masonry, and well finished inside. The club did not adopt the day labor system in the erection of its building, but stuck to the contract system under which the original buildings ... [ILLUSTRATED]
