  2. MR. A. DEAKIN, M.H.R.[?] PRIME MINISTER OF THE COMMONWEALTH.

    Mr. Deakin, who has been Prime Minister of the Commonwealth since July, 1905, was born in F[?]roy, Melbourne, on August 3,1856 being the son of Mr. William D[?]kin and was educated at the Church of England Grammar School, and Melbourne University. Called to the Victorian Bar in 1877. [?] was elected to the Victorian Assembly in February, 1879[?] in which he sat until he retired just before the inauguration of the Commonwealth Parliament. He was Solicitor-General Minister of Public Works and Minister of Water Supply in the Service Ministry. 1883-6.
