    AFTER SIX-HOURS OF GRUELLING WORK IN THE EXAMINATION-ROOM, boys from schools all over the State gave a rousing cheer of thankfulness when the ordeal was over. In the top picture the young students are seen hard at work, wrestling with the problems the examiners had set before them, in order that those eligible for the twenty scholarships given by the Council of the Working Men’s College might be chosen. Boys with an eighth-grade education, or who had passed the Merit certificate, were able to sit. The two years’ course provided for the lucky ones includes turning and fitting, blacksmithing, carpentry, and plumbing, also higher mathematics, English, ... [ILLUSTRATED]
