Women played a leading part in the celebrations in Sydney on Empire Day, May 24, a procession of women through the principal streets of the city being one of the features of the day's events. Some of the women were mounted on horseback, and they made a striking picture of athletic womanhood. The procession was made up of the mothers, wives, sisters, and sweethearts of the men of the A.I.F. who have gone to the front. After the procession a monster meeting was held in the Domain, at which the following pledge was made: -- "We the women of New South Wales, here assembled, do solemnly and sincerely affirm our belief that the safety and peace of Australia, are ...
