    Sir Matthew Harris, who died in Sydney on June 8. Sir Matthew was 77 years of age, and was born in Derry, Ireland. He came to Sydney while a boy, and was educated at the Sydney Grammar School, later going to Sydney University, where he took his B.A. degree. He was Mayor of Sydney in 1898, 1899, and 1900, and also represented the Denison Division in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. He was knighted in 1899. Sir Matthew held many public offices. He was president of Sydney Hospital, vice-president of the Royal. Agricultural Society, president of Wentworth Park Trust, and was president of the Pioneers' Club in 1912. He also acted as chairman of the Wanset Commission. He was a keen collector of art treasures, and presented several fine pieces to the Sydney Art Gallery, Technical Museum, Mitchell Library, and Government House. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
