The German residents of Sydney celebrated their fifteenth annual festival at Clifton Gardens on January 18. Steamers from Circular Quay ran to the watering place at intervals throughout the day, and towards the afternoon there were nearly 2000 persons present, most of whom were of German origin. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon a number of gentlemen mounted a, temporary platform in the grounds, and the proceedings were begun by Herr E. Wischweh calling for the customary "Hochs" to King Edward, which were enthusiastically given, the band playing national airs. The German Consul-General (Dr. G.
