Advertising : 50 wordsPlan showing the alterations to the existing railway system by substituting an overhead viaduct as suggested by Inspector Hunter (Chief of the Traffic Department) to the Town Planning Commission during its railway inquiry, as a means of overcoming the serious obstruction to traffic caused by the present line. Inspector Hunter said that so far as handling the city traffic was concerned, the central station should be removed to a site between Roe-street and James-street, in the position now occupied by the State school. The land between Roe-street and Francis-strest could be resumed, and the land at present [?] by the railway disposed of The terminal station for country lines should be built at East Perth, say at Lord-street, and the railway carried through the city on a viaduct, thus allowing the free flow of traffic on the lever underneath, at whatever points were desired. Goods sheds and marshalling yards should be at East Perth. If this scheme were adopted, It would permit the free expansion of the city northward, and traffic problems created by obstruction due to bridges and subways would be obviated. With reinforced concrete construction and present day architecture, the viaduct, could be an attractive structure, and ... [ILLUSTRATED]
