  13. CLAREMONT GAS SERVICE.

    The Electricity and Gas Department of the City Council has begun the construction of a gas holder 81ft. 6in. in diameter, with a capacity of 250,000 cubic feet, in Alice-road, Claremont, between Doonan-road and Elizabeth street. The material has been supplied by Thomas Piggott of Birmingham, and the whole cost will be between £8,000, and £9,000. A gas main has been laid to Ned lands and when the gas holder is completed in three or four months the pipes will probably have reached Claremont. The purpose of the gas holder is to provide a reserve in case of breakdown in the service. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
