    The picture was taken in Woolloomooloo, down near the bay, and looking over towards "William-street. A great many of the houses shown will probably he pulled down by the City Council. Tho residents have been objecting Vigorously, on tho ground that they have nowhere else to go to. But, as a matter of fact, there is not likely to he any pulling down just yet. The council has resumed almost all of the oblong of land which lies between Duke- street (a narrow lane just beyond the line of bouses whose backs slant across the picture), and Dowling-street, which Is parallel to Duke-street, and a little further behind it. The oblong runs from the bay up to William-street. The resumption was made partly In order to widon Duke-street to 40ft. and partly to wipe out houses, some of which certainly look slum-like. But the line of little buildings that slant across the picture will not be pulled ... [ILLUSTRATED]

    An Interesting scheme for improving Manly Beach was submitted, to the last meeting of the Manly Council by Mr. Rutledge Louat. The scheme It is claimed, will not interfere with free access to the surf, and it is estimated that It would, return a total income of nearly £8500, and a net profit of over £5200. Charges would be made only for the use of dressing boxes, and of the marine promenade and rroof garden.
