    In these pictures Billy begins his travels through Museumlund under the guidance of Coo-ee, the native boy from the Orange district. To encourage Billy in the new world in which he finds himself, Coo-ee shows him the rock- drawings of hands which are supposed by the natives to ward off bad luck. Black hands surrounded by white pigment are believed to keep off death while red hands drive away evil spirits. The Bora Tree marks the place of initiation, where young natives go through the cruel tests before they become Bora-men. This is termed the "man-making ceremony". ... [ILLUSTRATED]
