    Amounis a brown gelding by Magpie (imp.)— Loved One. was once raced by Mr. P Wade, who bought him from trainer J. W. Cook, but subsequent to his defeat in the 1925 A.J.C. Derby by Manfrad. who lost half a furlong at the barrier, Amounis became the property of the well-known bookmaker. Mr. W. Pearson, and for that owner Amounis in time became the greatest stake winner in Australia by topping the total standing to the credit of Gloaming. Amounis made history by winning two Epsom Handicaps (1926 and 1928), two Cantala Stakes (1926 and 1929), and a Caulfield Cup (1933). and he has twice defeated Phar Lap at weight for age. He is a remarkable horse, as he tails off in his races, but his finishing runs are brilliant and devastating in their effect. He has won £48,297 10 in stakes. The jockey shown in the photograph is H.
