    The above illustration depicts the lower end of Montague road as seen from near Boundary street. The wreck of the cooperage and storehouses at the West End Brewery is in the foreground. The brewhouse and tower remained firm, but the water rose nearly to the inscription, "West End Brewery, across the third floor. Hundreds of barrels were swept away, and many tanks of malt floated out of the warehouse, the sides of which are shown in the picture to have been dashed aside.
