Ploughman, complaining of an allege 1 exces-ive fee uuder tbe Building A d, the committee recommended the request be not complied with, aud regretted that it had hem couched in disrespectful terms end contained a reflection on one of the council's officers.—Alderman Amolt did n d think it fair to charge 10s € i top £2§ repairs, aud was torry that the committee bad not grasped the irqporl of the views which he had expressed at the previous mpe(ing. He was of opinion that the eommunical'on was couched in respectful language.—Alderman Watch- orn defended the budding surveyor, end considered that ih6 letter was disrespcctful.—Alderman Cri p was inclined to thuik that it was a hardship to charge any such sum. He asked whaiamouot of repairs could be effected by a citie-n free of charge.—Alderman Grouch said they Lad a law aud they must observe it. If it was-objectionable they should take stops to have it altered.—Aldtrman Har. bottle pointed out that Messrs Head «nd Plowman had not given iho notice to the building surveyor, which the law required, end the offioer might have taken proceedings had ho chosen.
