Ernest Barry, of England, regained the world's sculling championship from Alfred Felton, of New South Wales on the Parramatta River on Saturday afternoon, August 28. Unfortunately the race was marred by the touching of the boats, but the umpire, Bill Beach, decided not to interfere as the boats were at the time in [?] water. He considered also that the incident did not actually affect the race. Eventually Barry passed the judges boat at Searle's Monument 12 lengths in front of Felton. and was declared the winner.
