A shallow coastal indentation, about two miles across, and situated about one mile east of Cape Spencer, so named in consequence of the shore end of the Althorpe Island Telegraph Cable being landed there in 1886 (the Cable Hut marked in Picture). In shore this Bay is flanked by a high stony Ridge, densely covered with Mallee, from which, in clear weather, a fine view of Kangaroo Island is obtained. The Althorpe Islands and several of the other Islands in Spencer's Gulf are visible also. The Bay is of no value for Shipping, as landing from a Boat is always more or less risky, owing to the heavy surf and rocks. Cape Spencer was named by Flinders, when exploring this part of our Coastline.
