  7. THE LYING-IN-STATE OF THE LATE FIELD-MARSHAL EARL HAIG

    Thousands of men and women of high and low degree reverently filed past the flag-shrouded coffin containing the mortal remains of the late Earl Haig as it lay in State at St. Columba's Church (Church of Scotland), Pont Street, London, prior to the national funeral service at Westminster Abbey on February 3. The picture shows the flag-draped coffin with the Field-Marshal's baton, sword, and plumed hat, and Lady Haig's own wreath of Flanders poppies. The guard of honour was composed of the King's Own Scottish Borderers, of which regiment Earl Haig was colonel. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
