  2. WENTWORTH, a Great Australian

    William Charles Wentworth, Australian patriot and statesman, Was born at Norfolk Island in or about the year 1793, the oldest son of D'Arcy WentWorth, surgeon to the little island community. He Was educated in England, but in 1824 returned to Australia to reside thereafter for nearly 40 years at Vaucluse House, near Sydney. In 1862, after a life of the most varied and honourable activities in Australia, he retired permanently to England, where he died in March, 1872. His remains Were brought back ... [ILLUSTRATED]

  3. MAJOR GEORGE JOHNSTON

    Major (afterwards Lieutenant-Colonel) Johnston came out with the First Fleet as first lieutenant of Major Ross's company of marines on board the Lady Penryhn. He decided to remain in Australia, and his later quarrels with and arrest of Governor Bligh are matters of history. He died at his home, Annandale, Sydney, on January 3, 1823. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
