Narrandera is situated on the Murrumbidgee River, some 360 miles from Sydney on the south-west line, and is the centre of an extensive pastoral and agricultural area. The main channel from Berembed to Griffith, on the Murrumbidgee irrigation area, runs through the municipality. The population numbers about 4000. It is a great sporting centre. The tennis club has 1½ courts, the bowling club has four rinks, the golf club has 40 active members; there are cricket and football grounds; and of course, horse-racing is very popular.
