The Commonwealth Government entertained Vice-Admiral Field and the senior officers of the visiting fleet at The Ambassadors. The dinner was a great success. Much interest in the proceedings was taken by the general public, many of whom thronged Pitt-street until every guest had departed. The tables were appropriately decorated with magnificent models of the visiting fleet, each ship being reproduced in flowers, and there were also effective designs of anchors. In accordance with a wish expressed in Federal quarters, of menu was entirely Australian. The wines were well known Commonwealth brands, and the items on the menu were local name. ... [ILLUSTRATED]
