"Sydney Mail" readers will doubtless be glad to have this picture of the Commonwealth's first flagship, the splendid battle-cruiser whose presence in these waters prevented our coastal cities from being bombarded by the Scharnhorst, the Gneisenau, and other enemy ships early in the Great War, but which now lies at Garden Island a mere hulk, waiting to be sent to her grave. Australians generally feel deep regret at the sinking of the ship. This is because of her historic association, and a final effort to preserve her will be made in the Senate to-morrow.
