  2. CRICKET IN THE TROBRIANDS: "OW'S TAT?"

    This is one of many interesting and unique sketches brought from the Trcbriand Islands by the well-known artist, Mr. Ellis Silas, who has just returned to Sydney from a second visit to that fascinating part of Papua. It depicts a cricket match between the girls of one of the villages. There is no limitation to the size of the bats; the ball is a weirdly-shaped piece of wood; the stumps may be of any number up to six; bills are considered unnecessary; there are no umpires; and the scores are registered by leaving off the frond of a palm left for each run.
