On New Year's Day the Highland Society of N.S.W. held its 56th "gathering of the clans" at the Royal Agricultural Ground. Ideal weather prevailed, and the attendance was the largest in the history of the society, while the entries in the various competitions—especially in the dancing and piping sections—broke all records. At the official luncheon the new president (Mr. Duncan Carson) presided, and among many 'distinguished' visitors were the Lieutenanl-Covernor (Sir William Cullen) and the Chief Secretary (Mr. C. W.
