  2. Canberra: The Site of Australia's Capital City.

    Early in the year the Federal Government decided to secure for the Federal Parliament House, when it is established at Canberra, a painting of the capital site as it was when a commencement was made with the work of building the city. Accordingly, artists were invited to send in pictures, and it was announced that the picture chosen would be bought for £250. The art advisory board, consisting of representatives from each State, with Mr. Hugh Paterson as chairman, was appointed to consider the merits of the pictures submitted, and it was eventually decided to award first place to the fine work of Mr. W.
