  3. Camel Teams Engaged in Excavating a Storage Reservoir at Kalgoorlie (W.A.).

    It was decided quite recently by the Government of Western Australia that, in order to guard against the possibility of a temporary breakdown of the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme, a storage reservoir should be provided at Kalgoorlie, in order to supplement the storage capacity of Mount Charlotte Reservoir. The progress of this work is now well in hand, and constitutes an interesting sight. In the excavation of the reservoir a novel departure has been made in undertaking the work by means of camels, ploughs, and scoops, instead of following the old method of excavating by means of a large number of men, with horses and drays.
