It is a strange and unfortunate paradox that at the moment when the world's essential need for peace is more commonly admitted, perhaps, than at any time since the war, practically every so-called civilised country seems to be the scene of feverish military preparations. These pictures show the universality of the "war-spirit;" and, as a bellicose attitude, like jealousy, grows by what it feeds on, it seems to be painfully clear that unless these warlike activities can be suppressed or greatly mitigated the near future can only be regarded with grave apprehension.
