    The high jump is always one of the most thrilling events of the show-ring, for people will never cease to wonder at the ability of a horse weighing half a ton or more to lift its great bulk clear over a barrier anything up to 7ft high. The Australian record, made by Coal Dust at Wangaratta (Vic.) three years ago, is nearly a foot above that figure; but very few horses ever succeed in clearing the 7ft mark.
