    The growing love for Australian flora has led to the uprooting of many of the old deciduous trees that Were planted in the earlier days of settlement, but this beautiful avenue of elms in the Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne, serves as a reminder of the days when English trees dominated many landscapes. The photograph Was taken a few weeks ago, just before the elms began to take on their spring garb, and shows how effectively they allow the sunlight to flood the thoroughfare in a Way impossible with evergreens. ...
