This curious aircraft has recently been put through its trial flights at the seaplane yards at Rochester, Kent. It takes the form of a flying-boat with a seaplane on its back, the former being large and powerful enough to rise with the combined load, the latter not being able to get away when fully loaded without assistance. But once in the air the larger and lower component drops from beneath the upper one, which is thus enabled to get away with a sufficient load of fuel to cross the Atlantic as well as a pay—or cargo—load. ...
