  2. Jean Batten Searching for the Lost Airliner

    On Friday last shortly after 1 p.m. a Stinson mail 'plane, carrying five passengers and two pilots, left Brisbane for Sydney, and having failed to reach Mascot it was feared, as lime passed, that she had plunged into the sea off the coast or into the waters of Broken Bay. Intense search by a number of 'planes followed. In the above photograph the famous New Zealand aviatrix, Miss Jean Batten —who arrived in Sydney during the week—is seen searching in her 'plane through the wild and rugged area near Bervwra.
