Port Macquarie is situated at the mouth of the Hastings River, and for many years it has been the home of the net fisherman. Furthermore, it is acknowledged to be a veritable piscatorial paradise for knights of the line. No doubt there are more fishing boats on the Clarence River, which is a much bigger stream, but for its size the Hastings will compare more than favourably with any stream in the Commonwealth.
