The Germans have at last entered on their much-advertised offensive on the Western front, attaching the British on a 50-mile front. Our troops, as authorities anticipated, have been obliged to give ground in some places, but the German gains have been very dearly bought, the enemy casualties being enormous. Our line apparently has not anywhere been broken, and our troops are confident as to the ultimate result of the battle, which is expected to prove the greatest in the World's history, and may be the deciding conflict of the war. ...
