  2. Among the Stately Tree-Ferns of Mount Wilson

    This is a spot of indescribable charm, and in recent years the motor car has thrown open to thousands of people the delightful scenes which formerly were reserved for the select few because of the comparative remoteness of the locality from the main roads. Mount Wilson—truly one of the beauty-spots of the Commonwealth—is situated a few miles out from Bell, on the western railway line, 82 miles from Sydney. The road leading to the settlement is bordered with clematis, wild tobacco plants, native raspberry, and other luxuriant shrubs, from amongst which rise towering gums and lofty acacias, sassafras, and innumerable tree-ferns. The climate of Mount Wilson is as bracing as that of Tasmania. Nine miles further on is Mount Irvine, and the scenery along that route is also rich in fern glens and extensive forests of magnificent timber.
