  2. J. W. TURNER ADDRESSING THE PUPILS.

    About 2700 children and some 300 adults assembled at Fort-street School playground on the 11th instant to present Mr. J. W. Turner with an address and a purse of sovereigns for Mrs. Turner from past and present pupils and staff and "old boys." M. Shipway as chairman of committee, presided, and Mr. Q. L. Deloitte, and "Old boy" of 50 years ago, made the presentation. M. Turner was entertained in the evening by Public school teachers at Shadler's cafe. At the school gathering addresses were delivered by "Old boys." representing the five decades between 1850 and 1900. Mr. A. Martin, 1850 and 1860; Mr. H. Duff, 1860 and 1870; Dr. O. Bohrsmann, 1870 and 1880; Mr. A Lasker, 1880 and 1890 ; and Mr. Armitage, 1890 and 1900. The beginning of the new century was represented by Mr. H. Foxall, captain of the school in 1900. ...
