    In last week's "Mail" was published the cabled news that the bill authorising the purchase of the necessary land for, and the allotment of funds for the immediate construction of, the canal to connect the Atlantic with the Pacific through the State of Nicaragua had passed the United States Senate. Undoubtedly the work will be pushed on with characteristic American vigour to the finish, and within a few years we will see Australian liners coming through this way.
