    Western Australia has been slower to come into its own than have the other States of the Commonwealth, but its progress in recent years has been most marked. With the settling of the land, the building of pioneer railways, and better utilisation of the water resources, and the development of the mining industry, many towns have sprung up, whilst Perth itself has expanded in all directions.
