    The disaster to the turret steamer Clan Ranald has opened up among shipping men a keen discussion as to the possibility of cargo shifting in a vessel of her build. Captain H. W. Langferd, under whose supervision the Clan Ranald was loaded, scouted the idea. "The peculiar construction of the Clan Ranald," he said, " rendered it impossible for the cargo to shift.
