  4. SCHOONER HUIA VISITS NEWCASTLE: ISLINGTON PARK TREES

    Three of these pictures are associated with the visit to castle yesterday of the auxiliary schooner Huia, which came into port to pick up a cargo of explosives, and later in the day left again to continue its voyage to Melbourne. In the top corner is a group of the crew, and on the lower right the officers of the schooner are shown. The picture in the top right hand side shows two of the Moreton Bay Fig trees in Islington Park, fronting the Maitland road; concerning the destruction of a number of these trees, as determined by Wickham Council, vavious protest have been expressed. The trees from a silhouette to the expanse of water backed up at high tide in the recently constructed stormwater channel through the park, with the footbridge leading from the park to Tighe's Hill showing in the background. ...
